How Rufus knows that the image requires the 2015 Syslinux instead of the 2014 one, I have no idea, but I'm not too concerned about that.Īnd re: the op, my understanding is now that no Rufus is not altering (the contents of) the iso. It comes with 6.03/, which is somehow a different version even though they are both 6.03, and that the only different files Rufus needs to have the new version are ldlinux.sys and ldlinux.bss, which it will download.

RUFUS DOWNLOAD SYSLINUX HOW TO

Hi folks.i have to admit that until actually using linux and entering the forum, i had never even heard of rufus.how i made my ISO was by using a program that i had in my windows 10 called "CDburnerXP" it was very straight forward in making my very first ISO but i used a dvd disk to do so since i had never even owned a usb let alone that it could even be used to install an operating just totally worked and i was comfortable using a technology that at least at that time i understood.after coming to linux i now not only know about using usb in doing this and yes, i now know rufus exists, but now use the really neat and easy to use usb stick formatter and usb image writer already included with linux distro installations.i also found out i was not alone with other previous windows system folks who wanted to convert to linux who, like me were not comfortable thinking that a tiny usb could actually contain an entire operating yep, they all knew how to "burn" a disk so that at least as a start, made it easier to make the transition to linux.i have fondly kept my original linux mint disk in its envelope package now gathering a lot of dust because i now only use usb iso to put linux distros on other peoples computers made off of my main computer using the usb image writer.this i found to be the easiest way to tell someone how to put linux distros on their computer for the very first enty of time to learn the rest therafter.DAMIENĪfter reading a bit about syslinux and how bootable usbs work, and using UNetbootin and seeing what it does, it seems to mean that This image requires Syslinux 6.03/20151222 to be the bootloader that Rufus writes to the usb, and that Rufus doesn't come with that version of syslinux. I have used Rufus extensively for years to install at least 50 different Linux distros, and this explanation is perfect and very poetic. "This image uses Syslinux 6.03/20151222" rufus is saying this because its detected its different from what it was expecting, Windows, and will then download what it needs to make your bootble Linux.

Guessing again here, this is probably to keep the size of a standard rufus download small ( its a free download remember and server costs have to be covered ). So, presumably, the additional information needed to create Linux bootable media isn't included in a standard download of rufus. Most people use rufus to create Windows bootable media. It doesn't know how to but it knows you're asking it to do something it can't so the player searches the Internet and downloads the needed information, a codec, so that it can and there you go it plays FLAC files.

Now lets say you ask the music player to play some FLAC files. This music player can only play MP3 files "out of the box". Imagine, if you will, you have a music player installed. Polarvortex wrote:Well, what does it mean "This image uses Syslinux 6.03/20151222"
